About Us

Originally founded as Zero Waste Caledon, Zero Waste Living aims to raise awareness about the impact of waste on the environment and climate change. Our goal is to help inspire others to reduce their household waste, and move towards simpler and more sustainable lifestyles.

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.

My Zero Waste Journey

My garbage for 2019.

My garbage for 2019.

My zero waste journey began at the start of 2019. I set, and successfully met, the following goals:

  • Throw away one jar of garbage for the entire year

  • Significantly cut down on packaging and plastics

  • Share my experience with as many people as possible

I spent the last three months of 2018 preparing for my year of zero waste. This included finding and testing new recipes for food, skin care and cleaning products, finding stores that would accept my reusable containers, learning how to use the bulk stores and finding new reusable products to use at home. I also spent some time learning how to recycle properly. This included using our local recycling look up tool and talking to the local public works department.

My zero waste lifestyle has become second nature to me. Of course, I still face some challenges and I still make some waste, but overall my life is simpler, I’m saving money and I’m making much less of an impact on the planet, and I couldn’t be happier about that.

Remember, we don’t need everyone to reduce household waste down to one jar. We just need everyone to move towards waste reduction. For some people, that will mean reducing their household waste by one small bag a week or a month. For others, it might mean eliminating waste all together. Do what works for you. Make small improvements and build habits that will last a lifetime.

Aim for progress, not perfection.
